The 21-Day Smoothie Diet Challenge is created by health coach Drew Sgoutas. He claims to replace some of your meals with smoothies to lead quick and easy weight loss. As part of a balanced diet, smoothies can assist in weight loss and is a great healthy drink option. However, ingredients, portion size and the overall eating plan makes all the difference. When it comes to a healthy lifestyle, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Diet plans need to be customized per individual.

What Is A Smoothie Diet?

In a smoothie diet you replace meals with smoothies that are prepared with healthy ingredients like veggies and fruits.

Sgoutas created the 21-Day Smoothie Challenge to help his clients lose weight. His book, “The Smoothie Diet“, contains 36 smoothie recipes and a three week schedule. It details which smoothie to prepare for each meal. The book also offers a detox plan and instructions to replace three meals a day with smoothies. The 21-Day Smoothie Diet advises on eating normal but healthy food one day per week.

Why Follow A Smoothie Diet?

There are numerous diet plans. Most of them meet your body goals. However, some of you may question why follow this smoothie diet. Here’s a bunch of reasons for you:

Increases Nutrient Intake

Smoothies are prepared by using fruits and vegetables from all food groups. These include fibrous and whole fruits, leafy and green vegetables and low fat dairy. When such wholesome food is put into a smoothie, it increases your nutrition intake.

Weight Loss

Weight loss is typically dependent on reduction of calorie intake. This is so because your body should burn more calories than you’re consuming. The smoothie diet aims to restrict the number of calories consumed in a day.

Cons Of Smoothie Diet

In short term, followers of this diet may lose weight. However, to keep the progress, the followers might have to stay past the 21-day period. However, the smoothie diet is not a healthy diet for long term since important food groups containing vital nutrients are restricted. For most, two meal replacement smoothies plus a regular healthy meal may not provide the right balance of calories, protein, carbs and healthy fats for the body. Additionally, its tough to stick to this for the long haul since smoothies aren’t as satisfying as solid food.
